Just like old times...
Saturday was a rainy, nasty day. I really didn't care that it was raining though, mainly because it was my weekend with my boys. Since they couldn't venture outside, the trusty container of Hot Wheels made an appearance from the depths of the closet. They probably haven't played with them in a year. Watching them play brought back wonderful memeories of them when they were 3 and 5 years old and they played with their Hot Wheels every single day. Now they are almost 8 and 10. It always amazed me how little boys seemed to know how to make the "vroom vroom" noise as soon as they were big enough to push a car/tractor. Caleb and Dylan spent several hours examining cars they had forgotton they had, and then slamming them into one another as they whooshed across the hardwood floor. This was a day I loved being a mom to boys!

Open for Business!

I did it. Countless hours upon hours of work and it is LIVE – my new website that is. I guess I'm nervous because I'm worried that it's not absolutely perfect yet (I already found one typo) and it's not FULL enough yet. Also, I did not hire anyone to do the site. I did it all by my lonesome and it shows – kinda blah, nothing fancy. BUT, it is what it is and deep down I'm very excited. I've always wanted to work for myself – at home – and here I am. Please pardon the dust in my little shop, I still have lots of work to do. If you'd like to look around here's the link: LuLu Belle
OH, and forward the link to every mother of small children that you know! LOL

Science Fair
Caleb worked really hard on his science fair project. He did all the work by himself!! He had all his captions and titles printed and ready to go. We decided they needed to be bigger to fill up more space on the back board, and I showed him how to put cardstock backing on everything so it stood out. But really, I could not have lifted a finger and he would have had an A+ project without my help!! I'm glad he has the initiative to get things done, and done well. He got a second place ribbon which he can't wait to hang in his room!

Happy Valentine's Day!
I woke up this morning to loads of handmade goodies and some HandPicked goodies too! I love that my boys make me sweet little gifts. What makes them so special is that they are so proud of their creations. Creating is good for the soul, and warms the heart - especially on Valentie's Day!

In the making...
We've made so many "things" the past few weeks. Four, yes four, projects for school. Congrats to my Caleb who won second place in the Science fair. Photos to come. We have one more project to do this weekend and I have lots of sewing to do. It's exciting and exhausting to have a list of projects in the making. I think life would be very boring if there weren't fun things to create, projects and plans to delve into, and cool supplies to be bought! As a child we had a book on the bookcase called, "Make and Do." It was our favorite. I remember reading and learning from the pages over and over. A greatly loved little book for sure.
So, here's what's on my table today. How about yours?

Baby Girl – Little Girl
I know to many it is simply unfathomable to have a child still nursing at age 2. I didn't plan it that way. But from day one of Lacey's life, she has been my very attached little nursling. We have had a remarkable bond in so many ways. I thought it was because for so long, I had ached for a daughter. I'm not sure how or why, but we are uniquely bonded. Don't misunderstand me, I love and adore my sons. After all, they were first. They taught me what it was to be a mother, to be selfless. They taught me that I could love someone so deeply it hurt. They taught me what real fear was when they needed stitches or had a high fever. I would have done anything to take their place. My boys are my heartbeat and my breath.
Back to Lacey - we recently accomplished a huge feat, and marked a milestone in her life and mine. For weeks and weeks I had talked with Lacey off and on all day about how when she wakes at night, she doesn't need her “milky,” as she calls it, to go back to sleep. She hasn't nursed during the day for over a year, but sleep and nursing at night have been an issue. I told her she could close her eyes and hold me tight and she could go back to sleep without it. And yes, I'm playing musical beds from hers to mine, but it is working. So I would quiz her all day about what she would do when she woke up – no crying and no milky. Close your eyes, hold me tight.
I've tried this for weeks and it always ended in at least an hour of wailing and then me, exhausted, giving in. I'm not a “cry-it-out” parent, by the way. Doesn't fit into my philosophy in the least. But, to each his own.
Last night was different. Lacey was in her bed by 8. By midnight I heard her on the monitor call for me. Of course, she wanted her “milky.” I reminded her, as I have over and over, that she didn't need it. She looked hurt, her little bottom lip quivering. I looked at her and said, “I love you, I'm so proud of you. I know you can do it.” Then, like a veil had been lifted, she gave me a huge, ear to ear, dimplelicious smile. She closed her eyes. And when I thought she was back to sleep, I suddenly felt her tiny, warm hand slip into mine and she squeezed my hand tight. I don't know how she knew I needed her to hold my hand. Yes, I needed it. Here for the first time in almost 2.5 years, I thought she didn't need me. It was a bittersweet moment. My baby was now a little girl. When I felt her hand slip into mine, it was evidence of our bond. It was there, hopefully forever. I'll admit, I was the one doing all the bawling. I drifted to sleep with a tear soaked pillow. How I will miss our quiet, “milky” time together. But I am, so proud of her. She is a dream come true.
My children bring me such happiness. There are some days when I think if I hear, “Mama, can I” one more time I'll need a straight jacket, but usually there is more happy than sad.
Caleb and Dylan hold up traffic every morning at the drop off at school. They have to give me a kiss and tell me they love me before they will exit the van. I love how they always ask me to have prayer with them, just the two of them, before they go to sleep.
I think if, hopefully many, many years from now, when it is my time to leave this earth, if I have my boys there, once again to “hold up traffic,” to tell me they love me and kiss my cheek I will have had a successful life. And, if in my last breaths, my sweet daughter slips her hand in mine once again, I know I will have lived my life to the fullest. My children will be my accomplishment and the reason for being on this earth.

A Lacey Funny....
Since Christmas brought many new and inrtiguing dolls to Lacey, we have had many occasions to replace the batteries in these new little loved ones. Most of the batteries are replaced by opening the back of the doll. Well, Lacey was lying on her tummy while I was buttoning up the back of her dress. When I was finished buttoning, I asked her to get up so I could put on her shoes. Her response, "No, I'm just too tired." I encourged her to get up again and her response, "I'm just too tired to move." With a little more insistance I told her to get up. "Mommy, I'm too tired. I don't work. You just need to put new batteries in my butt."
Don't ever think they aren't looking, listening and absorbing every moment of every day! My little sponge dosen't miss a thing!

Build-A-Bear
I'm on a roll today - two posts! LOL Lacey's Christmas gift from Uncle Dale and Aunt Moriah was a trip to Build-A-Bear. I had never been before so it was fun for me too! Lacey had a great time choosing her animal - she picked a puppy. She and Aunt Moriah picked out an adorable fairy costume for her puppy and a make-up set. Lacey has been doing the puppy's make-up all day. Thanks Uncle Dale and Aunt Moriah. Lacey loves her puppy. Thanks Aunt Moriah for a fun day!
Baby, it's cold outside!
Yes, it's a no school, frosty, toe-chilling, snow day! This is the first snow Lacey has ever seen, so we bundled up and headed out before breakfast! It wasn't long before everyone wanted some warm, buttermilk biscuits and hot chocolate! Fine by me!! Though COLD, snow is beautiful, and one day of it is wonderful.
